Gantar Dance, Traditional Dances From East Kalimantan

Gantar Dance is one of the dances of young people who come from Dayak Benuaq tribe and Dayak Tanjung tribe in East Kalimantan. In this dance the dancers use a short bamboo stick and as a dancing property. This dance depicts the expression of the dancers' excitement as well as the friendliness of the Dayak community in welcoming the guests. This dance is often functioned for welcoming the guests or the tourists who attended the traditional event in East Kalimantan. The origin of this Gantar Dance is still not known for certain. But many versions that tell the origin of this Gantar Dance. some say that this dance was formerly performed during the Dayak rice planting ceremony. Long sticks used in dancing serve to punch the ground. While the short bamboo is used to sprinkle the seeds in the hole. In this Gantar Dance, the dancers also stamped their feet.
